The above four work used Shape Memory Alloy form different shape. Shape Memory Alloy can be programmed to a specific shape. A programmed shape memory wire will transform different shape base on change of temperature.
Review of the possibility of using Shape Memory Alloy technic:
There are lots of advantage in Shape Memory Alloy technic and the positive possibility to my project. It is light of weight and small volume which can be easy to hidden. Also, transformed shape can be tailor made which provide a flexible shape of the artwork.
But there is one deficiency puts me off. Which is the transforming speed is too slow that not fit to my expectation. What I expected is an energetic crane flapping its wings, what I reached in this stage can’t fulfil this requirement.

Magnetic technology

Review of the possibility of using magnetic technology:
Using magnetic technology to control the movement of the paper and fulfil the deficiency of Shape Memory Alloy, which can provide a quick respond to create sharp movement. But the disadvantage is the magnetic control device occupy a lot of space.
Electromagnetic
Try to use technology of Electromagnetic to control the movement of a metal piece.

Testing Result:
Negative. The range of moving is too small maybe is because the power of the Electromagnetic metal is not high enough. As the higher voltage of electromagnetic will cause the larger spacing between each electromagnetic metal. It may facing the same problem again. |
In this stage, as I already finalised and well tested the technical method of this artwork, the following weeks will focus on the installation of the work
